Radware Launches Hybrid DDoS Attack Protection Solution

November 21, 2014 02:00 PM

Radware, a company best known for its DDoS attack mitigation and application deliver appliances, this week announced a new hybrid solution designed to help enterprise organizations detect and protect against sophisticated and volumetric DDoS attacks.

Radware’s Attack Mitigation Service is a fully managed and hybrid solution that can help protect small to mid-sized enterprises that lack in-house security teams as well as large enterprises that wish to outsource their DDoS mitigation solution, the company said.

The service integrates an on-premise defense component with a cloud-based “scrubbing center” to ensure that datacenters are constantly protected from the threat of multi-vector DDoS attacks.

“When using an on premise device or a cloud based DDoS solution, these tools are not as effective on their own as they are integrated,” says Carl Herberger, vice president of security solutions, Radware.

In addition to offering 24/7 monitoring, Radware’s Attack Mitigation Service includes:

  • Notification of attacks that require Radware’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) involvement
  • ERT support in an emergency response situation
  • OPEX based Attack Mitigation Service subscription
  • End-to-end service and protection leaving the ownership, monitoring and mitigation with Radware
  • Online web portal that provides network statistics and attacks’ situational awareness

“All businesses are potential targets, and the boardroom is beginning to understand just what and how much are at stake,” Christian Christiansen, program vice president, security products and services, IDC, said in a statement. “Since 2012, IDC has seen a sharp increase in the frequency, bandwidth volume, and application orientation of attacks. With these types of attacks on the rise, organizations need to be aware of, and take steps to protect their infrastructure from the advanced methods today's attackers use.”

In a recent survey conducted by Incapsula, respondents estimated the cost of a successful DDoS attack at $40,000 per hour.

A survey of 450 companies in North America conducted by Neustar earlier this year revealed that fourteen percent of companies believe a DDoS outage would trigger losses of between $50,000 and $100,000 per hour, while 29 percent said the cost would be $100,000 or more per hour.

A report released this week by Verisign showed that the number of DDoS attacks exceeding 10 Gbps grew substantially between the second and third quarters of the year.
