PenTeleData Chooses Radware to Protect Its Own Networks as Well as Its Customers Connected to Its IP Services

Radware®(NASDAQ: RDWR), a leading provider of cyber security and application delivery solutions ensuring optimal service level for applications in virtual, cloud, and software-defined data centers, announced that PenTeleData, the region’s largest privately owned fiber optic based network, has selected Radware’s on-premises attack mitigation to protect its infrastructure and that of its customers from DDoS attacks that threaten their network availability.

Founded in 1994, PenTeleData is a strategic partnership of local cable and telephone companies, including Service Electric Cable TV and Communications, Service Electric Broadband Cable, Service Electric Cablevision, Ironton Telephone, and Blue Ridge Communications. The PenTeleData partnership has invested more than $300 million in fiber optic infrastructure with nearly 10,000 miles of fiber optic cabling that serves existing customers in all facets of life from their homes to businesses, including banking, health care, education, government, retail sales, and the wireless industry. Prior to selecting Radware, PenTeleData used a legacy solution that sometimes resulted in application disruptions, connectivity disruptions, and security threats. It needed a new solution that could consistently protect its internal infrastructure and provide it with the ability to sell DDoS mitigation as a service to its customers. That solution had to also be able to integrate successfully with DDoS detection from Kentik Technologies’ cloud-based NetFlow analytics solution.

Radware’s Attack Mitigation is a behavioral-based real-time signature technology that detects and mitigates emerging network attacks in real time, such as zero-minute attacks, DoS/DDoS attacks, and application misuse attacks—all without the need for human intervention and without blocking legitimate user traffic.

“Once the Radware technology is fully deployed in our core, we’ll be able to eliminate half of the maintenance effort we had with the prior solution,” said Brian Mengel, Chief Technology Officer at PenTeleData. “Because of the integration between Radware and Kentik’s cloud NetFlow monitoring, we will be able to trigger mitigations in our scrubbing center for our customers. For those customers who need scrubbing capabilities beyond what we can provide locally, we will resell Radware’s DDoS cloud protection solution and get the customer access to Radware’s cloud. We are also working to resell and manage additional Radware solutions for our customers.”

“PenTeleData is a network provider, so there is virtually no room for error when it comes to ensuring that its customers are protected from attacks that can disrupt their network access,” said David Anderson, Corporate Vice President North America for Radware. “PenTeleData needed a more robust solution than it previously had in order to protect itself and its customers. We are pleased it has selected Radware as its business partner.”
