The Force Was Strong at VMworld 2011
While four days in Vegas might leave tourists running home for a long nap, our team just returned from VMworld 2011 and we’re feeling more energized than ever before! That’s because the virtualization show of the year was a cloud party.
In fact, the cloud is one of the reasons why the Radware team was at the show. We launched a new plugin, which will serve customers of the VMware vCloud® Director. IT managers will be able to handle their application delivery in data centers with greater ease and reliability. The vDirect plugin operates with the virtual application delivery controller to enforce VMware vCloud Director organization service level agreements (SLAs).
Other benefits of the vDirect plugin include:
- Support for tiered services model – Radware’s vADCs are available in a variety of form factors and deployment models to fit any VMware vCloud Director organization SLA
- Streamlined provisioning of application delivery services – IT managers will save time, have fewer steps and simplify the way they interoperate, define and consume a new virtual application, which also includes application delivery service
- Maximum agility, efficiency, and business continuity – Packaging a vADC as part of a vApp helps bridge the gap between the virtual application and the network, which aides in correct service levels and migration efforts
With this futuristic plug-in, we brought out the Jedi light sabers and Darth Vader mask for our Virtual App Wars demo. We showed conference attendees how to use the ADC Force for good and stay away from the dark side. Attendees were impressed with the new plugin, with one saying, “This makes load balancing transparent.”
Another participant added, “This will make a transition to the cloud a lot easier.”
After the demo ended, we found that lots of folks wanted to try on the Vader mask. Can you blame them?
We also got a chance to check out the rest of the show (and we were impressed with what we saw!). Here are some of the big trends and technologies to look out for post-VMworld:
- Look out for Project Octopus – VMware is touting it as the Dropbox for the enterprise, where employees can access any file from any device. But, in this case, IT can manage it for security purposes. Finally!
- Mobile is Still Huge – VMware has also launched a mobile tool that will allow delivery of applications to any mobile device that supports HTML 5, and also announced a partnership with Samsung. Delivering that company information to any mobile device securely will continue to be a leading factor in enterprise mobile strategies.
- Virtual Storage Will Be Huge – A number of new vendors offered ways to store data through virtualization. Flexibility will be key, but it’s definitely a feature IT administrators have wanted for some time.
