AppDirector’s™ LDAP splitting intelligently manages LDAP messaging loads, enabling the distribution of LDAP messages from a single transmission control protocol (TCP) connection, that often represents hundreds of aggregated LDAP client requests across multiple LDAP servers. AppDirector and AppXcel’s LDAP splitting mechanism makes it possible to eliminate service latencies and process LDAP requests in parallel, based on availability and load, while maintaining LDAP transaction persistency to manage the entire LDAP transaction using the same LDAP server. In addition, by distributing LDAP processing across servers, AppDirector overcomes traffic peaks and manages the bursts resulting from high reconnection rates following infrastructure component failures.

The health of the LDAP application and LDAP servers are continuously monitored to identify and bypass transaction failures. AppDirector and AppXcel perform LDAP server health checks based on session creation, client authentication and LDAP querying to search for a specified object.
