What is IPS?

What is an IPS? An Intrusion Prevention System inspects network traffic in real time, identifies malicious activity and automatically blocks or mitigates threats before they reach protected systems. Unlike passive detection tools, an inline IPS can take direct action on suspicious traffic. Unlike a host-based system installed on a single device, a NIPS protects an entire network segment from one point, making it a core layer of defense alongside next generation firewalls, endpoint protection etc.

CORE CAPABILITIES

  • Dedicated Purpose-Built Hardware.
  • Signature-based detection of known exploits, malware propagation, protocol abuse and attack patterns.
  • Protocol and stateful inspection to identify malformed packets, anomalous sessions and policy violations.
  • Exploit and vulnerability protection for common network and application-layer attack techniques.
  • Threat-intelligence and reputation feeds to enrich detection of known malicious sources.
  • Inbuilt Signatures and custom Signatures to create own pattern
  • Protection from Worms, viruses, Trojans, backdoors, Client-side vulnerabilities, Spyware

ADVANCED THREAT PROTECTION

  • Zero-day risk reduction using behavioral analysis, protocol anomalies, heuristics and exploit-pattern detection—not signatures alone.
  • Protection against reconnaissance, scanning, brute-force patterns.
  • Encrypted-traffic visibility through metadata, flow/TLS fingerprints or decryption inbuilt. Hardware based TLS Decryption Module.
  • Automated inline blocking, packet dropping, connection resets and configurable prevention actions.
  • Automatic Real Time Signature blocking without manual intervention.

DEPLOYMENT, PERFORMANCE & OPERATIONS

Transparent deployment

Inline bridge / bump-in-the-wire modes can often be deployed without changing IP addressing or end-host configuration.

Resilience & availability

High availability, fail-open/fail-closed behavior, bypass options and redundant links help align protection with uptime requirements.

Performance & scale

Low-latency inspection, throughput and concurrent-session capacity, protocol coverage, IPv6 support

VISIBILITY, CONTROL & BUSINESS VALUE

SECURITY VISIBILITY

  • Centralized policy management, event logging, dashboards, alerts and forensic context.
  • Tuning controls, allowlists, exception handling and severity-based policies to reduce false positives.

BUSINESS OUTCOMES

  • Reduce attack exposure and help contain threats before they impact applications or infrastructure.
  • Support defense-in-depth, compliance evidence and faster incident response across data centers, campus and edge networks.
