Radware (NASDAQ: RDWR) the leading provider of integrated application delivery solutions for business smart networks today announced that SKIDATA AG, one of the world’s leading providers of access management-solutions, has chosen to deploy Radware’s DefensePro security platform in response to the growing threats of network security.
SKIDATA AG, based in Salzburg, Austria equips facilities including the Allianz Arena in Munich, skiing areas all over the world, parking garages and leisure parks with systems controlling access and billing solutions. The company sees the deployment of DefensePro as the best means to improve protection against threats and optimize its networks.
Because sites in Europe, Asia and the US are connected by various VPN lines, problems with IP technology were frequent. And, the connections to the global ERP system, Internet lines were also sharing the overstretched and slow channels – a faster connection was needed. Additionally, the company planned to up-to-date the system with protection against existing and future threats posed by hackers.
The purchase of Radware’s DefensePro means that SKIDATA was able to solve these issues with one platform. DefensePro does not merely protect against conventional hacker attacks at network and application levels but also secures all protocols such as HTTP, VoIP, SIP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, IMAP and MS-SQL. At its core is the Web Flood Mitigator, which ensures a transparent web server and detects ongoing attack mechanisms in real time. In addition, DefensePro optimizes traffic shaping on all levels.
“With DefensePro, we have not only raised our security standards but employee productivity has also significantly increased. Traffic shaping means that long waits in Internet traffic are a thing of the past,” says Christian Steiner, Head of IT Infrastructures at SKIDATA AG.
“We developed our DefensePro solution particularly for the requirements of companies like SKIDATA AG, since IT administrators now expect an out-of-the-box solution for all types of threats. In particular, DefensePro quickly aids implementation of security standards across the company, quickly and easily,” says Alfred Bettheil, Sales Manager Austria at Radware.
DefensePro is perfectly adapted to all threat scenarios. Now that hackers have adjusted to the classic defense mechanisms against Denial of Service and Distributed Denial of Service attacks, they are switching to other methods: instead of using simple packet-based flood attacks, they now attempt to trick protective mechanisms with session-based flood attacks. To do this, they use tools that imitate normal user behavior and load complete homepages from the network to overload the web server. In addition, they provoke increased traffic through massive volumes of database inquires or updates, putting extreme pressure on Internet capacities by permanently clicking links.
The implementation partner in this project was Datentechnik, a company that has advised SKIDATA on all IT and network issues for many years and has been using Radware products for just as long.
