Radware - The Market Leader in Firewall High Availability - Chosen to Load Balance Firewalls in eWEEK's Openhack Project

MAHWAH, NJ July 5, 2000 02:00 PM

Radware (Nasdaq: RDWR), a leading provider of Internet Traffic Management (ITM) solutions enabling continuous access to Web sites IP applications and content, announced today that eWEEK Labs has chosen its award-winning FireProof firewall/VPN load balancing switch-based appliance to ensure Openhack.com is always on-line.

The eWEEK Openhack project is designed to help e-businesses address security concerns based on the different attacks the project's Web server endures. Investigating the types and targets of the attacks will allow eWEEK Labs to measure the security and vulnerability of varying computing platforms. After the results of the hacking challenge are posted, eWEEK readers can use the information to design a network that offers tight security but also allows open communications.

"Openhack.com includes multiple subnets for hosing e-mail and directory services, an e-commerce application, and a back-end enterprise class database," said Henry Baltazar of eWEEK Labs. "To ensure that the site will be able to withstand constant attacks, the firewalls have been clustered using load balancing hardware from Radware."

As part of the defense against malicious attacks, e-businesses must employ multiple, independent layers of protection. One of these layers is the firewall cluster in which Radware's FireProof product creates a robust, fault tolerant, high availability solution.

In the hacking challenge network, two FireProofs sit behind two firewalls to eliminate bottlenecks and single points of failure. The FireProof is capable of load balancing transparent and non-transparent traffic for multiple firewalls on the same port simultaneously, and up to 100 firewalls can be load balanced simultaneously with a single FireProof.

"Radware's FireProof product is proven to work seamlessly, without limitations as to the security solution any customer might select today or move to tomorrow," said Rod Jones, director of strategic products at Radware Inc. "This open system design allows the user community to look at the results form Openhack and apply the results directly to their unique situation."

eWEEK is offering award money to any hackers capable of cracking into Openhack.com. Prize money ranges form $500 for defacing the Web server to $1500 for compromising the e-mail server to $2500 for cracking into the database server. The hacking challenge began on June 26 and will end July 21, or until all the prize money is paid out.
