Hola from Barcelona! Here’s a roundup of the week’s news, much of it from Mobile World Congress, related tosoftware defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV). There’s also a smattering of securityto get you ready for next week’s RSA Conference.

The Open Compute Project launched the  Telecom Infra Project, aiming to infuse telecom-equipment design with the OCP concepts of openness and disaggregation. Project members mentioned in the introductory blog post areFacebookIntel, and Nokia, and carriers Deutsche Telekom, EE, and SK Telecom.

After announcing two other joint deals this week, Cisco and Ericsson added that they’ve won a contract with Vodafone Portugal.

Huawei and Deutsche Telekom announced they’d completed a demonstration of network slicing for 5G.

Security startup ThousandEyes raised a $35 million Series C, bringing its total funding to $60 million. The round was led by Tenaya Capital, aided by new investor Google Ventures (which has apparently changed its name to simply “GV”) and prior investors Sequoia Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures.

Amdocs integrated Red Hat‘s Enterprise Linux OpenStack platform with the Amdocs Network Cloud Service Orchestrator.

DartPoints is deploying ADVA Ensemble’s NFV technology to enable multitenancy VNFs. The first of these to be rolled out will be virtual firewalls and routers managed by DartPoints.

Kontron and Pica8 announced that the PicOS network operating system (NOS)  is now available as an integral SDNoption to Kontron SYMKLOUD converged infrastructure platforms.

Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), a mobile and data service provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed a 5-year agreement for Cisco to provide cloud and managed services systems. Cisco will expand its current scope of work to include management and operation of Mobily’s network, including third-party vendor equipment and devices across multiple markets.

Xura‘s NFV architecture has been accredited by HPE as part of its NFV System Partner Program. Xura’s productswill use HPE’s management and orchestration (MANO) suite, including HPE NFV Director, to support deployment and management of messaging solutions in a carrier-grade network.

Openwave Mobility launched a subscriber data management virtualized user data repository (vUDR) for carriers to deploy in NFV environments.

Radware showed that its load balancer can perform beyond 200 Gb/s in a single software-based instance, showing that operators will be able to maintain their NFV architecture for faster network provisioning, and still meet the bandwidth demands of customers.

NEC picked Ubiqube to help it build OpenStack-based cloud infrastructure.

Clavister announced a collaboration with NEC and Netcracker to add virtualized security software to SDN and NFV deployments.

Avaya announced SDN Fx Healthcare, a management and security platform aimed specifically at the healthcare vertical.

Puppet Labs launched the docker_ucp module to go along with general availability of the Docker Universal Control Plane.

Managed services provider Perseus chose Plexxi’s architecture for an expansion into 11 Asian markets.

Check Point and IBM announced an alliance in the area of threat prevention.

Affirmed Networks announced deals with Cubic Telecom and Vodafone.
