Author: Jim Hodges

Jim leads Heavy Reading’s research on the impact of the NFV enabled virtualized cloud on the control plane and application layers, both in the fixed and mobile core and at the enterprise edge. This includes evolution paths of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), session border controllers (SBCs), Diameter signaling controllers (DSCs), SIP based application servers, PBXs, Unified Communication (UC) and policy controllers. In addition, Jim focuses on the security impacts that cloud and emerging cloud based technologies such as 5G introduce from both a cyber threat detection perspective, as well as the business opportunities associated with delivery of security capabilities via a managed services model. He authors Heavy Reading's NFV & SDN Market Trackers. Jim joined Heavy Reading from Nortel Networks, where he tracked the VoIP and application server market landscape and was a key contributor to the development of Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) standards. Additional technical experience was gained with Bell Canada, where he performed IN and SS7 network planning, numbering administration, technical model forecast creation and definition of regulatory-based interconnection models. Jim is based in Ottawa, Canada.
