Akamai and Radware Co-Develop Products to Provide Content Delivery and Network Efficiency

CAMBRIDGE, MA and MAHWAH, NJ September 11, 2000 02:00 PM

Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), a leading, global provider of high-performance services for the delivery of Internet content, streaming media, and applications, and Radware (Nasdaq: RDWR), a leading provider of intelligent traffic management (ITM) solutions that bring certainty to dynamic networks, ensuring optimal, continuous, personalized and secure service, today announced the two companies are working together to develop a Radware AkamaizerSM product that allows customers to automatically and transparently manipulate Web content - a process known as "Akamaizing" - to optimize e-Business networks by routing users to the closest available content on the Akamai global network. The result of this joint development will be a standalone device designed to offer e-Businesses fault tolerance, scalability, manageability, and optimal performance. The joint offering will be commercially available in Q4 2000.

"Marrying cutting-edge technology with our core retailing experience, VictoriasSecret.com delivers a reliable online shopping experience to customers," said Tim Plzak, director, Advanced Technology for Limited Technology Services, the IT arm of Intimate Brands, Inc., parent company of Victoria's Secret, a mutual customer of both Akamai and Radware. "As a content-rich, high-traffic Web site, VictoriasSecret.com continually looks for technologies from companies like Radware and Akamai to help enhance our customers' online experience."

Akamai addresses the Web's speed and congestion problems by analyzing real-time Internet conditions to deliver all forms of content via the most efficient route to the edges of the Internet, reaching end users in the fastest and most reliable way. Radware and Akamai will utilize this speed and intelligence to enhance the efficiency of Web sites by maximizing the availability, performance, and scalability of mission-critical Internet servers and applications. The Akamaizer device is unique in its ability to dynamically translate customers' URLs into Akamai's ARLs (Akamai Resource Locators), a necessary step in the process by which Web content is efficiently delivered from the Akamai network. Radware is developing an Akamaizer device that will enable mutual customers to better meet end users' demands for fast and reliable access to all forms of Internet content. Used in conjunction with Radware's Web Server Director, the Akamaizer functionality will provide e-Businesses with maximum network scalability and the redundancy and manageability to maintain Web site infrastructure without sacrificing content validity.

"The Akamaizer function will complement the feature richness and speed of Radware's technology with an increased level of content delivery," said Arik Ziv, Vice President of Business Development for Radware, Inc. "Working together, we will enable joint customers to provide clients with exactly what they want - top Web performance - quickly and consistently."

"Radware's Internet traffic management technology and expertise coupled with Akamai's high-speed, high-quality services for Internet content and application delivery should provide e-Businesses with a much-needed competitive advantage in Web performance," said Ravi Sundararajan, Director, Business Development, Akamai. "Our joint efforts fulfill both companies' goals to make the Internet a more efficient business tool."
