Radware and Lucent Technologies Announce High Availability, Robust Firewall Farm

MAHWAH and MURRAY HILL, NJ November 8, 1999 02:00 PM

Radware (Nasdaq: RDWR) a leading provider of Internet traffic management solutions enabling continuous access to Web sites, and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today introduced a solution that enhances the performance, reliability and scalability of critical firewall applications.

The combined solution is comprised of multiple Lucent Managed Firewalls and Radware FireProof traffic management system for firewalls. This allows network administrators to build bulletproof, high-availability firewall farms, virtually eliminating potential bottlenecks and single points of failure.

FireProof by Radware is a traffic management solution that intelligently load balances traffic between as many as 100 firewalls. A single FireProof is capable of handling both inbound and outbound, transparent or non-transparent, traffic simultaneously. In addition, FireProof performs real-time monitoring on the Lucent Managed Firewall and routes traffic to the most available appliance. Based on user defined intervals, the application health on each firewall is periodically monitored to ensure that traffic is routed to the best possible resource. Firewalls can be transparently added or removed from the farm to meet user demands.

The ICSA and NSA-certified Lucent Managed Firewall utilizes an easy-to install, distributed architecture to provide enterprise and service provider customers with exceptional security, scalability and centralized network management. Hundreds of Lucent Management Firewalls and VPN Gateways, as well as thousands of IPSec Client users, can be integrated and centrally managed by the Lucent Security Management Server…an ideal solution for large, growing or distributed networks.

The combined Radware/Lucent solution was recently and successfully deployed at AT&T Canada, enabling the provider to add scalability and fault tolerance to their security solution.

"We worked hard with Lucent to provide a combined system that allows customers to scale security needs on demand, while at the same time increase performance and eliminate single points of failure," said Mike Long, VP of Marketing for Radware. "Lucent required a solution that would deliver total system fault tolerance and redundancy for their customers. The final design combined multiple FireProofs and multiple Lucent Managed Firewalls with all possible fail over scenarios successfully tested. Customers that demand total fault tolerance will love this solution."

"The combined Lucent Managed Firewall/FireProof load-balancing solution will allow customers like AT&T Canada to increase the performance, fault-tolerance and overall security of their network," said Howard Gittleson, director of Secure/VPN Solutions at Lucent Technologies.
