Radware (NASDAQ: RDWR), the leading provider of intelligent integrated solutions for ensuring the fast, reliable and secure delivery of networked and Web-enabled applications over IP, today announced the immediate protection against the W32.Rahack.W worm.
W32.Rahack.W is a polymorphic worm that propagates on computers running Radmin software by exploiting weak passwords to connect to the Radmin server. The worm targets Windows-based computers operating Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, beginning with one system and propagating executable code via ports 80, 143, 139, 445 and 9988 (the Radmin service). Radware protects against the worm via the patented adaptive behavioral-based technology featured across its DefensePro Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).
New adaptive behavioral analysis features recently added to the DefensePro product include an anti-scanning module, which prevents worm propagation automatically by detecting and blocking ICMP traffic generated by the worm, which uses the ICMP ping requests to spread to additional desktops. In blocking the ICMP traffic generated by the worm, the device suppresses the propagation of the worm while allowing legitimate traffic generated by the same host applications.
DefensePro provides automatic protection to Radware customers with no need for action on the part of the network manager. While most IPS vendors require signature and policy updates be administered in response to publication of vulnerability reports in common applications, Radware's product line is specifically designed to intercept outbreaks without need for pre-programming, policy definitions, rule setting or signature updates.
"Once again, Radware has proven that the adaptive behavioral capabilities inherent in its DefensePro product line provide the essential security our customers are looking for, without unnecessary administrative overhead," said Avi Chesla, VP Security, Radware. "With attacks such as the W32.Rahack.W worm constantly looming on the threat landscape, administrators simply don't have the time or resources to inspect each vulnerability. With DefensePro, our customers can rest assured that they'll be protected from attacks without the need for costly, time-consuming manual intervention."
