Radware to Present at DEFCON; The Risk of Software Updates - How to Protect Your Infrastructure When It is the Most Vulnerable?

MAHWAH, N.J. July 21, 2009 02:00 PM

Radware (NASDAQ: RDWR), the leading provider of integrated application delivery solutions for business-smart networking, today announced it will offer insight and best practice information on how to protect significant information assets from security breaches when performing routine software updates – a time when the infrastructure is actually most vulnerable, during a presentation at the DEFCON 17® Conference, in Las Vegas, which is being held July 30 – August 2, 2009.

Software updates apply patches or introduce new features to an application – but are often times conducted in insecure environments; leaving updates/customers/users exposed to malicious code or to manipulation of application data, such as anti-virus signatures.

In a presentation titled, The Day of the Updates, Radware’s Itzik Kotler, Security Operation Center Team Leader, and Tomer Bitton, Security Researcher, will highlight how the majority of applications that organizations use today, are actually performing their software updates insecurely, making it possible for attackers to replace the update with a malware.

The presentation, which will take place at The Riviera Hotel & Casino on Saturday, August 1, at 7:00pm PST, will offer specific details into various application-update procedures to ensure IT managers can best protect mission-critical applications. Kotler will also demonstrate several techniques of update-exploitation attacks and introduce a new tool to build and inject a fake update reply or hijack an ongoing update session.

“There is a need for continued education on emerging online and network security threats,” said Itzik Kotler. “Presenting at DEFCON allows us to share information on new potential security breaches that will eventually result with more secured applications and network infrastructures”

DEFCON is the world’s longest running and largest underground hacking conference. Since 1993, corporate IT leaders, computer security professionals, and federal law officials converge every summer to absorb cutting edge research.
