Silverstream Chooses Radware Product to Enhance Web Presence

MAHWAH, NJ February 14, 2000 02:00 PM

Radware (Nasdaq: RDWR), a leading provider of Internet Traffic Management (ITM) solutions enabling continuous access to Web sites, IP applications, and content, today announced that SilverStream Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSSW), a leading global Internet infrastructure company, uses Radware's ITM products to enhance its corporate Web site.

Radware's Web Server Director (WSD), a product designed to provide high-availability, fault-tolerant robust solutions for serving data from server farms, is currently used by SilverStream Software to maintain a constant presence on the Web.

SilverStream Software employs the award-winning Web Server Director-Pro (WSD-Pro) ITM solution on its site to route traffic through its network, to IP addresses and for balancing the overall load by intelligently connecting visitors to its Web site in an orderly fashion. "A load balancing solution should be seamless and transparent," said Mike Long, VP of marketing and technology for Radware, Inc. "Customers logging on to SilverStream's site will have no idea where the traffic is directed but they will quickly gain access," Long said.

"For the SilverStream Software site we designed a cluster of multiple systems fed by a database server," said Jason DeGeorge, Web Application Developer, SilverStream Software. To help insure the Web site is available and responsive, SilverStream installed the WSD-Pro on a LAN subnet between the Web server farm and the Internet gateway.

The WSD-Pro's dynamic polling feature monitors the health of the servers and the software, and can initiate defensive actions. "If we have server or component failure, the WSD-Pro takes it out of the loop, routes all incoming traffic around the failed device to another server, and alerts the network administrator. We can even perform maintenance and server upgrades without taking the site down. It's quite beneficial and transparent," added DeGeorge.
