Vianet Carries Out Server Hosting for UTMS Auction with Radware's ITM Solutions

MUNICH, GERMANY January 15, 2001 02:00 PM

Radware (Nasdaq: RDWR), a leading provider of Intelligent Traffic Management (ITM) solutions that bring certainty to dynamic networks, ensuring optimal, continuous, personalized and secure service is pleased to announce a successful cooperation with VIANET, a leading Internet Service Providers for businesses. VIANET provided network solutions at the UMTS auction carried out by Telekom-Control-Kommission and Radware supplied the bandwidth connection to VIANET's High Speed Backbone, the deployment of a new technology for load balancing as well as a redundant security system. The publication of the auction results was completed with a business hosting solution by VIANET, guaranteeing fast and secure access to the web site even during peak-traffic hours.

Univ. Prof. Dr. Heinrich Otruba, CEO of Telekom-Control GmbH says: "The VIANET solution was highly secure, stable, available and met our requirements."

The current auction results were directed to a Lotus Notes/Domino Server located in the VIANET data center. From there the results were published on Telekom-Control GmbH's own web site. The system ran redundantly on an application level, allowing 3 servers to provide the same content at the same time. During the 2 days of auction 63.000 visits, 1.2 million page views and peaks up to 1.000 current users were registered.

With the deployment of Radware's Web Server Director providing dynamic load balancing and pro-active health monitoring, requests could be shared optimally among the 3 servers. This new system runs on an application level and provides not only highest availability but also an administration for high access rate independent of platform, server and application. If a device fails, it is taken out of the system and the load is transparently directed to the remaining powerful servers. The advantage of the pro-active management is that after taking the failed server is brought back into service, its capacity is increased slowly with Radware's Smart Server Recovery. Tristan Libischer, Chairman of VIANET Telekommunikations AG says about the project: "The solution concept, as evident by the success of the UMTS auction, is a wonderful example for the high quality and the service capability of the offered VIANET services."

Christian Sauer, General Manager of Radware GmbH points out: "Our intelligent traffic management solutions provided optimal high availability and redundancy that we were able to prove in cooperation with VIANET at the UMTS auction. We are more than pleased with this satisfying result."

VIANET Business Hosting provides companies the possibility to take in customer server hardware into a professional and high available environment without having to take care of maintenance and a bandwidth connection of the servers to the Internet. Through direct connection to the VIANET High Speed Backbone, the server is permanently available with high bandwidth through the Internet without costs for dial-in connections or leased lines. Emergency power supply and air conditioning provide redundant and optimal operation conditions for maximal performance. The server connection is monitored permanently in the VIANET Network Operation Center. In case of a failure the customer is contacted immediately. This service, plus the flexible costs according to customer requests, make VIANET an ideal business partner for companies that are in need of a quality business housing solution.
