Axent Certifies Radware to Provide High Availability Load-Balancing Solution with FireProof for Raptor Firewall 6.0

ATLANTA, GA September 13, 1999 02:00 PM

AXENT Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AXNT) has certified Radware as their strategic "Security" Partner to offer a hardware-based dynamic high availability, load-balancing solution which combines the Radware FireProof system and the AXENTTM Raptor* Firewall 6.0. Radware is the only hardware load-balancing vendor certified by AXENT. The solution combines multiple Raptor Firewalls with FireProof. This allows network administrators to build load balanced firewall farms to eliminate potential firewall bottlenecks and possible single points of failure. This solution will dramatically reduce vulnerabilities in critical e-business efforts.

FireProof by Radware is an IP load-balancing, appliance that allows up to 100 Raptor firewalls to be clustered behind a single load-balancing interface. With FireProof, all Raptor firewalls are simultaneously operational with traffic intelligently load-balanced to ensure that no box receives more requests than it can handle. A single FireProof system is capable of handling inbound and outbound, transparent or non-transparent, traffic concurrently. It also performs periodic checks on each firewall’s application health to ensure that traffic is only directed to healthy firewalls. Introduction and removal of firewalls from the farm can be achieved administratively and are transparent to the user.

The FireProof system itself has fault tolerance capabilities. Two FireProof systems can be configured to monitor each other’s ‘heartbeat’ via the network using standard IP protocols. In the event of a FireProof failure, the second unit will take over the responsibility within seconds. Failover time is user configurable.

AXENT’s Raptor Firewall 6.0, recently positioned by GartnerGroup as the leader for combined ability to execute and completeness of vision, is a high-performance, full-security, enterprise firewall that provides the highest level of perimeter security available today. In addition, the Raptor Firewall provides native high-availability support that maximizes the availability of secure business-critical Internet connections by minimizing downtime due to system failure, scheduled maintenance, software updates, back-up procedures and system upgrades. Secure Internet connectivity is maintained regardless of hardware/system failure ensuring that a company maintains its e-business capabilities by deploying AXENT e-security solutions.

Unlike other technologies, the RAPTOR firewall's use of strong proxy architecture enables organizations to scan application specific data, enhancing the security and control of their network's data. For these and other technical innovations, the Raptor Firewall recently won the Blue Ribbon award from Network World and numerous industry accolades from top publications including a Network Computing, Data Communications, InfoWorld, and Datamation.

"We are very excited about being an AXENT Security Partner," said Rodney Jones, director of channel development for Radware. "We have already done several joint installs with the AXENT team so we know there is great synergy between our products. This new certification will allow us to further develop the synergy between the people within the companies."

"Ensuring high-speed throughput and minimizing downtime is extremely important in the firewall environment," said Marc Shinbrood, senior vice president business development for AXENT. "By certifying Radware’s FireProof and integrating it with our award-winning Raptor Firewall, we offer joint customers secure and reliable Internet and intranet connections."

The Radware/AXENT solution is available now worldwide through Radware and Radware channels, starting at U.S. $12,500.
