Radware (NASDAQ; RDWR) the leading provider of Intelligent Application Switching (IAS) solutions ensuring the availability, performance and security of networked applications across the enterprise, announced the immediate availability of a signature protecting against the AgoBot worm - a malicious computer program with self propagating capabilities. This is a classical backdoor attack that allows a hacker to control the victim's machine remotely and launch a Denial of Service attack by sending commands via IRC channels.
Once the program has made its way onto a victim's computer, it spreads across networks and searches for passwords that are stored on hard drives, passing across local networks. It also disables anti-virus programs and systems for upgrading software.
"This is a dangerous worm since it can manifest itself in many ways and allows the attacker to manipulate infected machines and launch different types of malicious activities," said Amir Peles, CTO, Radware. "The potential damage is great but Radware Security Update Service customers now have immediate protection from this backdoor worm, safeguarding their mission critical applications."
